{"id":5175,"date":"2021-01-28T11:00:24","date_gmt":"2021-01-28T18:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=5175"},"modified":"2021-01-28T16:34:49","modified_gmt":"2021-01-28T23:34:49","slug":"san-diego-may-be-switching-ambulance-providers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=5175","title":{"rendered":"San Diego may be switching ambulance providers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Sebastian Acosta<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With San Diego rejecting an appeal by ambulance provider American Medical Response (AMR), Falck USA may soon increase the city\u2019s ambulance service by more than 20 percent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poor service levels and slow response times are the reasons for San Diego\u2019s want of a new ambulance provider.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Falck\u2019s proposal will be heard on Feb. 10 by the City Council\u2019s public safety committee. Final approval will come weeks later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A contract between city officials and Falck was signed in September, but AMR is seeking to block the switch. An AMR spokesman said company officials were \u201cassessing all our options.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the appeal, AMR argued that Falck was too inexperienced and financially insecure to submit a bid. The appeal also said there was a lack of diversity in the city\u2019s selection panel and that there was a conflict of interest with one member.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each contention was rejected by Deputy City Attorney Laura DePoister. In her 14-page response, DePoister declared that AMR\u2019s concerns lacked merit, irrelevance, and insubstantiality.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De Poister wrote, \u201c[the appeals process] is not intended to give losing bidders an opportunity to evaluate the bid or proposal of the winning bidder to have the award overturned and secure the contract for itself.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AMR has continued to stand by its concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is frankly stunning that the city would deny our protest after learning that Flack didn\u2019t even meet the minimum requirements included in the RFP and had to rely on experience in Europe to meet the minimum requirements,\u201d AMR said in a statement. &#8220;The fact is, Falck lacks experience and expertise necessary to keep our residents safe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Falck is approved, it would begin service within a six month period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith the appeal process closed, Falck looks forward to obtaining City Council approval,\u201d said Troy Hagen, Falck USA\u2019s chief commercial officer. \u201cFalck looks forward to providing an improved level of emergency ambulance service for all San Diegans starting later this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Sebastian Acosta With San Diego rejecting an appeal by ambulance provider American Medical Response (AMR), Falck USA may soon increase the city\u2019s ambulance service by more than 20 percent.\u00a0 Poor service levels and slow response times are the reasons for San Diego\u2019s want of a new ambulance provider.\u00a0 Falck\u2019s proposal will be heard&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":5177,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5175","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v16.5 -
