Sources are saying that former President Donald Trump has dropped the idea of creating a third party, but he’s not leaving politics. Instead, he is focused on helping the Republican Party win back the House and Senate in 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn last 24 hours, after floating through a few folks that he was considering creating a third-party as a way to keep Senate Rs in line ahead of impeachment, Trump has been talked out of that and is making clear to people he isn\u2019t pursuing it,\u201d NYT reporter Maggie Haberman wrote.<\/p>\n

Top Trump advisor Jason Miller responded to rumors that Trump had drafted an\u00a0\u201cenemies list of Republicans for his Patriot Party to challenge in primaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President has made clear his goal is to win back the House and Senate for Republicans in 2022,\u201d Miller said. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing that\u2019s actively being planned regarding an effort outside of that, but it\u2019s completely up to Republican Senators if this is something that becomes more serious.\u201d<\/p>\n

The swearing-in of President Biden has united the Republican Party and put an end to some of the infighting that took place following the Capitol riot; Trump’s decision to remain in the party rather than start his own reflects that. In the past few days multiple Republican senators, most recently Marco Rubio, have come out against the impeachment trial facing the former president and are likely not to convict.<\/p>\n
