Earlier this week, San Diego County\u2019s \u201cVaccination Super Station\u201d<\/a> near Petco Park opened with hopes of vaccinating 5,000 healthcare workers per day. However, on Wednesday health officials reported six recipients had allergic reactions to the Moderna vaccine, triggering delays at the site.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although allergic reactions are anticipated, officials were surprised at what occurred on Wednesday. Ultimately, this led to a slow-down at the site and, as a precautionary measure, the suspect batch of vaccines was replaced with a new one.<\/span><\/p>\n

The “superstation” and its medical team worked late to accommodate all scheduled appointments from that day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Moderna vaccine is just one of two COVID-19 vaccines authorized by the FDA for emergency use. Currently, it is too early to determine the cause of the allergic reaction as noted by the County\u2019s Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Eric McDonald.<\/span><\/p>\n

The COVID-19 \u201cVaccination Super Station\u201d comes from a partnership between the Padres and UC San Diego Health to attempt to administer shots to eligible residents and healthcare workers more efficiently.<\/span><\/p>\n
