Roughly 4 million people may be eligible for a $600 payment from the government if Governor Newsom’s latest proposal is passed by the state legislature.<\/p>\n

\u201cCalifornians who have been impacted by this pandemic will get help to provide for their families and keep a roof over their heads,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Taxpayers who received the California Earned Income Tax Credit, available to those making less than $30,000 annually, would receive the payment. According to a spokesman for the California Department of Finance, that credit covered 3.9 million filers in 2020.<\/p>\n

Also eligible for the payment are those with\u00a0Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers; generally illegal immigrants. The state estimates that 125,000 of these filers would be eligible for the $600\u00a0payment<\/p>\n

The governor hopes the payments will be issued in February and March. If the proposal does make it through the legislature, it will take 3 to 4 weeks to disperse payments to people who filed electronically.<\/p>\n

American’s across the country have been vocal about wanting another stimulus payment. The US House and Senate were recently successful in passing legislation that provided American’s with $600 payments. However, Democrats and Republicans were unable to reach a compromise regarding the $2000 payments that were requested by President Trump.<\/p>\n
