Not even a day has gone by since San Diego Superior Court Judge Joel Wohlfeil clarified his ruling which allowed restaurants in San Diego to reopen. Unfortunately, the joy this brought to struggling business owners in the county was short-lived.<\/p>\n
Friday, just before 5 pm, the 4th District Court of Appeal in San Diego issued a stay, meaning restaurants must once again shut down.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis unsolicited order against enforcement of basic public health precautions necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, at a moment when hospitals in San Diego County and across the State are being overwhelmed, requires immediate action by this Court,\u201d wrote lawyers for the state. They also called the Wohlfeil’s ruling “a clear abuse of discretion.”<\/p>\n
It is inevitable that court battles over business closures will continue, but it is unknown right now what the outcome will be. Hopefully business owners can hold on for the time being because too many have already closed their doors for good.<\/p>\n
