Christian Garcia is the winner of the Palomar Community College Board Area 2 seat. He was endorsed by the Republican Party of San Diego County and is the first Republican to serve on the board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Garcia is a high school teacher and a former member of the Peace Corps. He is also the president of his Home Owners Association and a member of the Latino American Political Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a member of the Palomar Community College Board, one of his main goals is to fix the deficit that will soon make the school insolvent. There is currently no plan in place to solve this crisis and he wants to change that. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPalomar College needs to establish an independent auditor to identify ways to optimize the budget, reevaluate the full management structure to better incentivize proper fiscal management, and completely overhaul enrollment and academic planning systems,\u201d Garcia added. \u201cPerhaps most important, we need a vigilant board to oversee spending and provide fiscal accountability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Another main campaign promise is to expand distance learning and give more opportunities to nontraditional students. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSome students are better suited to go into the trades or careers that require technical skills as opposed to academic ones. Palomar should serve these students equally as their college bound counterparts,\u201d Garcia explained. \u201cAs a Trustee, I will prioritize and fully fund technical education programs that allow students to graduate in two years with employable and valuable technical skills, whether that be in water infrastructure, law enforcement, construction, or any of the great programs offered at Palomar.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As a member of the board, Garcia will serve the students of Palomar College and ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n
