Dr. Ellen J. Neufeldt, former Vice President of Student Engagement at Old Dominion University, has officially begun her tenure as the fourth president of CSU San Marcos. Neufeldt, an administrator with over 15 years of experience, was recently named a \u201cPillar of the Profession\u201d by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. In 2010 she was also included in a list of the top 100 women in Maryland. She has a doctorate’s degree in education, along with a master’s degree in counselor education and a bachelor\u2019s in business administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Vice President of Student Engagement, Neufeldt was famous for her commitment to student success and diversity. When speaking for the university press release, she is quoted as saying \u201c<\/span>CSUSM has a longstanding commitment to diversity, educational equity, and social justice. I am proud to be joining in this important work as we continue to advance our inclusive excellence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Her commitment to diversity and inclusion is keeping with the university tradition. In 2005, her predecessor Karen Haynes pledged to focus efforts on making the student body more reflective of regional demographics. At CSUSM, 45 percent of students come from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, and this is likely to continue under Neufeldt\u2019s tenure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though Haynes will be a hard act to follow for Neufeldt, according to the CSU board of directors \u201cDr. Neufeldt has been a visionary leader who has demonstrated a commitment to student success throughout her career.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
