State Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins has already endorsed San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott in her bid for re-election in 2020.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atkin\u2019s endorsement comes as no surprise. Elliot and Atkins have partnered before to help end the illegal ivory trade and expand Elliot\u2019s gun violence restraining order initiative statewide. The initiative\u2019s goal is to keep firearms away from those who pose a potential threat to their family and community. Additionally, Atkins respects Elliott\u2019s continued advocacy of environmental protection and women\u2019s rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Democratic attorney Cory Biggs withdrew from the San Diego Mayoral race and recently announced he would challenge incumbent Mara Elliott. Biggs, a California lawyer for over 25 years, has brought lawsuits against the San Diego Convention Center, the City of San Diego, San Diego Gas &amp; Electric, Walmart, and many other high profile companies.
