{"id":4585,"date":"2020-11-11T11:00:18","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T18:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=4585"},"modified":"2020-11-11T12:41:33","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T19:41:33","slug":"city-council-unanimously-approves-new-city-auditor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=4585","title":{"rendered":"City Council Unanimously Approves New City Auditor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>San Diego<\/strong> \u2013 In a historic vote, The City Council\u00a0unanimously approved\u00a0Interim\u00a0Assistant\u00a0City Auditor Andy Hanau to become San Diego\u2019s second\u00a0ever\u00a0City Auditor and the first\u00a0City Auditor\u00a0to take office\u00a0since\u00a0Measure D was\u00a0overwhelmingly\u00a0implemented by voters in March.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment of Mr. Hanau marks the end of\u00a0a\u00a0years-long endeavor by Audit Committee Chairman Scott Sherman to reform the process of how the City Auditor is appointed.<\/p>\n<p>Measured D\u00a0overhauled the City Auditor selection process and\u00a0took the power of appointment out of the hands of the Mayoral\u00a0Administration and into the hands of the Audit Committee and the City Council\u00a0where it belongs.<\/p>\n<p>The previous process could have created accountability issues since the City Auditor\u00a0would be tasked with conducting oversight of, and holding accountable, the administration that appointed them. This is the equivalent to the fox guarding the hen house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident now more than ever that San Diego will have an effective and independent City Auditor that will protect taxpayers for many years after I\u2019m gone,\u201d said Sherman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Office of the City Auditor is an award-winning office that excels at its mission to advance an open and accountable City government. I am honored by the Audit Committee\u2019s and City Council\u2019s confidence in me, and their confidence in the work our Office does to be an independent voice for positive change\u2019 said City Auditor Andy Hanau.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2019, Andy Hanau has served as the Interim Assistant City Auditor. In this role, Andy oversaw\u00a0audits, investigations, and strategic initiatives. Three of Andy\u2019s reports have won awards\u00a0for being amongst the best local government audits in North America.<\/p>\n<p>Andy has earned a Master of Public Policy from the UCLA School of Public Affairs.
