Marie Waldron is the Republican Party of San Diego County\u2019s endorsed candidate running against Democrat Kate Schwartz for State Assembly in the 75th District. She has served in the position since being elected to the State Assembly in 2012, and is currently the Assembly Republican Leader.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waldron was born and raised in New York City and earned her bachelor’s degree from St. John\u2019s University before moving to San Diego to do graduate work at UC San Diego and San Diego State University. She married her husband, Steve, and had one son who is now 17-years-old.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the past 30 years, Assemblywoman Waldron has worked in and with the community in a number of ways that make her uniquely qualified to lead. She and her husband have owned and operated their local business in Escondido for 25 years, so she understands the difficulty that government regulations and high taxes are for small businesses and taxpayers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her credentials when it comes to service and involvement in North San Diego County are unparalleled. She\u2019s been a member of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Association, and other community groups and served as Honorary Chairman of the California Business Advisory Council for four years, where she advocated to Congress for small businesses in California.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before being elected to the Assembly, she served on the Escondido City Council for 14 years, served as Escondido Deputy Mayor, as the city\u2019s representative to the League of California Cities, on the Regional Solid Waste Association Board, and in several other prominent public positions. Waldron has received numerous recognitions and awards for her work in the community\u2014and deservedly so.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waldron stands for and has fought repeatedly for public safety, a balanced budget, and revitalized neighborhoods. She supports lowering taxes, abolishing unnecessary regulations for construction and business, and improving transportation by expanding our roads. She is particularly interested in improving our communities by addressing the root causes of one of our biggest problems in San Diego and across the state: homelessness.<\/span><\/p>\n

With this in mind, she advocates for patient access to health care\u2014especially to reduce substance abuse\u2014and mental health resources. She has served in numerous groups addressing these problems, including her current service on the Stanford 5 Year Initiative on Neuroscience, which connects policymakers with researchers on mental health and addiction to create science-based solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Waldron is one of the most experienced local policymakers in San Diego, and with her commitment to improve San Diego from the inside out, there\u2019s no doubt that she deserves to keep her spot as Republican Leader of the State Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n
