{"id":3758,"date":"2020-08-11T09:30:17","date_gmt":"2020-08-11T16:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=3758"},"modified":"2020-08-11T13:37:21","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T20:37:21","slug":"state-senator-pat-bates-secures-funding-for-local-at-risk-young-adults","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=3758","title":{"rendered":"State Senator Pat Bates Secures Funding for Local At-Risk Young Adults"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recent awards from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to organizations in Orange County and San Diego County have been put to good use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State Senator Patricia Bates has been working hard to secure this funding for young adults at risk of becoming homeless in San Diego County. For instance, San Diego Habitat of Humanity received $1 million to fund homeownership development. Further, the County of San Diego\u2019s Child Welfare Services received $212,565 in funds from the Housing Navigators Program (HNP), funded by the 2019-20 California state budget. The grants are part of a total allocation of about $5 million in HNP funds to counties across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The HNP provides funding to counties in order to allow housing navigators to better help people between the ages of 18 and 21 to secure and maintain housing, with priority given to those in the foster care system. San Diego County may use the funding to provide housing navigation services directly, or contract other housing assistance programs in the county.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The economic disaster caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has jeopardized the dream of homeownership for many Californians,&#8221; said Senator Bates, who also serves on the Senate Housing Committee. &#8220;I thank the California Department of Housing and Community Development for allocating resources to Orange and San Diego counties to help more people afford their own homes.
