His COVID-19 update from earlier this week emphasized some good news: numbers are improving, and San Diego is moving closer and closer to getting off California\u2019s watchlist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We peaked at about 500 COVID-19 patients, but now we\u2019re down to about 390. Less than 10% of hospitalizations are COVID-related, a sure sign that San Diego is doing a good job of limiting the spread. Desmond encourages those interested in keeping up with the latest updates to go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/opsdashboard\/index.html#\/96feda77f12f46638b984fcb1d17bd24\">County Website<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As many who follow Supervisor Desmond\u2019s updates know, San Diego County has set up a stimulus grant fund to help businesses and nonprofit entities impacted by COVID-19. The application deadline for those in Supervisor District 5 to apply for grants is this Friday, so those interested shouldn\u2019t hesitate to apply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegocounty.gov\/stimulusgrant\/\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though Desmond emphasizes that we must continue to protect our most vulnerable and stop the spread, we also need to be aware of the struggles that our businesses and communities are facing.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I believe we shouldn&#39;t be penalizing those hard-working San Diegans trying to put food on the table, instead, we should be protecting our most vulnerable and those with underlying health conditions.
