The money will help fund public health, public safety, and other services to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cOne of my top priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic is fighting to ensure local governments receive their fair share of public resources,\u201d said Senator Bates, the Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. \u201cI am grateful that city and county governments in Orange and San Diego counties will receive needed funding to save lives and jobs. While more needs to be done to help local governments, the formal announcement of the $1.8 billion allocation is a welcome step in the right direction.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cssrc.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=034f5afcce53e5baa49c66e86&amp;id=efd8f9c521&amp;e=54d12ef701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/cssrc.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D034f5afcce53e5baa49c66e86%26id%3Defd8f9c521%26e%3D54d12ef701&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1595097972375000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF3E2XEbREPf3MTA0p3SiO7kBmClQ\">notification letter<\/a>\u00a0from the Department of Finance includes allocations for each city and county \u2013 the amounts have been updated based on new 2020 population estimates. As noted in the letter, the funds will be sent out in phases, with the first distributions consisting of one-sixth of the total amounts available to each local entity.
