While American jobs are lost to the shutdown, phantom Democratic Congressman Scott Peters continues to cash paychecks while avoiding his duty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Constitution compels Congress to meet in person. For the first time ever, the House now allows “proxy voting,” a measure passed by Democrats with no Republican support. This means a member can cast votes for up to 10 members who choose to stay home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When did Congress become nonessential? We <\/span>need<\/span> a Congress, now more than ever, representing our voice through their vote\u2014not by proxy to someone utterly ignorant of our district. I support the Congressional No Pay for Proxy Act: if you <\/span>don’t<\/span> show up, you don\u2019t get paid.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congress showed up after the Capitol was burned during the War of 1812. They met during the great pandemic of 1918, and they met after 9\/11. Even the California State Legislature is now meeting. <\/span>Yet, our current “Representative” has decided to stay home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, who is now representing the 52nd District? Scott Peters has tabbed a New Yorker named Kathleen Rice. Why? What possible relationship does she have with Scott Peters and, much more importantly, us?<\/span><\/p>\n

If hard-working Americans can get back to work, so can Scott Peters and Congress.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m tired of phantom legislators who disappear after they are elected. American taxpayers have paid Scott Peters over a million dollars\u2014not counting golden benefits\u2014for <\/span>zero<\/span> bills in eight years. And now he has given\u00a0your<\/em> vote away in Congress. We must hold him accountable.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have run companies in six countries and am not a career politician. I\u2019ve led innovative businesses, signed the front of paychecks, invented products used by millions of Americans, and created jobs.<\/span><\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t shirked my responsibility. I show up, and always will.<\/span><\/p>\n
