Gavin Newsom. She expressed pride in how successful San Diego businesses have been in terms of complying with CDC and state safety guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their work is starting to be rewarded as San Diego County moves into an accelerated version of phase two reopening. This was all made possible through the tireless efforts of local leaders and Newsom\u2019s decision to finally permit in-store retail shopping and restaurant dine-in experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restaurants are proving to take this opportunity seriously. Newsom, as hospitalizations and ICU patient numbers have consistently declined.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEW: Over the last 14 days, CA has seen:<br \/>&#8211; 7.5% decline in hospitalizations.<br \/>&#8211; 8.7% decline in the number of ICU patients statewide.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GavinNewsom\/status\/1262462572168507392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Diego was one of many counties to file the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/COVID-19\/County_Variance_Attestation_Form.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">attestation form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and be approved after determining that their plan was meeting new state metrics for advancement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supervisor Gaspar has been pushing to loosen restrictions on reopening businesses. In a letter to Gov. Newsom, she was outspoken about the unreasonable standards enforced on businesses looking to reopen. Her voice and many others led to the reforming of guidelines, going from requiring zero deaths and under 25 cases per day for a 14-day period to requiring no more than 25 cases per 100,000 people for a 14-day period. Supervisors Gaspar and Desmond led the Board of Supervisors&#8217; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sdchamber.org\/coronavirus\/leg-updates\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4-1 vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to send the accelerated reopening plan to Gov. Newsom. The lone opposing vote came from Supervisor Nathan Fletcher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses will have to make modifications in order to officially reopen. According to San Diego County, restaurants have new required <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegocounty.gov\/content\/dam\/sdc\/deh\/fhd\/food\/pdf\/covid19sdsafeonsitediningplan_en.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">regulations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and to further ensure safety, the state <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has also posted a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.ca.gov\/pdf\/guidance-dine-in-restaurants.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for dine-in restaurants to follow and a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">checklist<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to post in their restaurants for customers to view. Although restaurants are being allowed to reopen, hospitality services such as bars, wineries, tasting rooms, and lounges are not. Similar to restaurants, retail store owners have been given a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegocounty.gov\/content\/dam\/sdc\/hhsa\/programs\/phs\/Epidemiology\/covid19\/Community_Sector_Support\/BusinessesandEmployers\/SafeReopeningPlanTemplate.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to fill out and post for customers to see, and there\u2019s a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.ca.gov\/pdf\/guidance-retail.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> available for reference on how to maintain a safe environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are positive steps for San Diego County as the economy begins to open up to allow people to earn an income and return to the lives they had before the pandemic chaos ensued. The Board of Supervisors has sent Gov.
