The San Marcos Fire Department (SMFD) was recently awarded the highest possible classification from the Insurance Service Organization: Class 1 Public Protection Classification. The rating places SMFD among the ranks of the 37 best fire departments in California and the 348 nationwide that have earned the distinction.<\/span><\/p>\n

ISO ratings represent a fire department\u2019s ability to protect local communities. They\u2019re used by cities to help measure the effectiveness of their fire-protection services, and by insurance companies when establishing premiums for fire insurance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Class 1 ratings represent a fire department\u2019s excellence in fire protection services, and can lower the price of insurance within a community.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is a historic moment that has been 84 years in the making, made possible through an all hands effort and adherence to our core values,” said San Marcos Fire Chief Daniel Barron. “This elevated classification is a reflection of the City of San Marcos\u2019 commitment to providing quality public safety services to our citizens.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The department’s Class 1 Classification is certainly well deserved\u2014it\u2019s a true reflection of their commitment to public safety. After nearly a century of public service and diligence, their excellence has paid off in both a safer San Marcos and national recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n
