This has been a long time coming and there are two people who deserve the most credit: County Supervisors Kristin Gaspar and Jim Desmond. They have been arguing for weeks to get beaches reopened and they were the driving forces behind the reopening.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Supervisor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KristinDGaspar?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KristinDGaspar<\/a> explains why she believes <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SanDiego?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SanDiego<\/a> County should begin reopening their beaches and trails with certain safety protocols in place to maintain social distancing<\/p>\n<p>Full Story: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ye64KGPlSu\">https:\/\/t.co\/Ye64KGPlSu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uAMk2ivLmZ\">pic.twitter.com\/uAMk2ivLmZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; KUSI News (@KUSINews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KUSINews\/status\/1252402695190667264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though he had no part in the reopening and was in fact one of the biggest opponents of it, County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher is attempting to take credit for it. He voted against Desmond\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2020\/04\/county-supervisors-jim-desmond-and-kristin-gaspar-pushing-for-safe-reopening-of-san-diego\/\">proposition<\/a> to create plans for reopening and was hostile to the idea as recently as last week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But if you ask Fletcher, this was all a team effort and he&#8217;s the anointed spokesperson for all things good. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We previously closed all water activities in entire country (sic). We have now lifted that restriction for swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, etc.\u201d It\u2019s not \u201cwe\u201d. He had nothing to do with it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/nathanfletcher\/status\/1253810090202685442<\/p>\n<p>Again, it&#8217;s ironic and deceitful for Fletcher to present this change with &#8220;we&#8221; when he adamantly opposed it. If he had it his way, our beaches would remain closed indefinitely, or at least until we receive the blessing of our divine bureaucrats.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thankfully though, most people see through his charade and give the proper credit to whom it is due\u2014Supervisors Gaspar and Desmond. A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kusi.com\/county-supervisor-kristin-gaspar-credited-with-helping-reopen-beaches-across-san-diego-county\/\">KUSI article<\/a>\u00a0was titled, \u201cCounty Supervisor Kristin Gaspar credited with helping reopen beaches across San Diego County.\u201d So it appears that the general consensus here is correct.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The beaches are now open in San Diego.
