{"id":2928,"date":"2020-04-24T10:30:29","date_gmt":"2020-04-24T17:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=2928"},"modified":"2020-04-24T18:44:15","modified_gmt":"2020-04-25T01:44:15","slug":"parks-around-san-diego-beginning-to-reopen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=2928","title":{"rendered":"Parks Around San Diego Beginning to Reopen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Written by Michael Palomba<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this week, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced that some local parks would be reopened.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can view the updated status of all parks <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/park-status.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This decision will appease the millions of San Diegans throughout the county who have been cooped up in their homes for weeks. However, the park reopening comes with stipulations so that we can continue to limit the spread of COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Park goers are only allowed to enjoy the outdoors with people they live with. In addition, residents should continue social distancing, and face coverings are strongly encouraged.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We&#39;ve been at home for a month and San Diegans are following the rules. So neighborhood parks will be reopened on a limited basis, with physical distancing required. How closely public health orders continue to be followed will determine next steps. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rFnFJWJsOG\">https:\/\/t.co\/rFnFJWJsOG<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2bWHOmTKSZ\">pic.twitter.com\/2bWHOmTKSZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kevin Faulconer (@Kevin_Faulconer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kevin_Faulconer\/status\/1252427552301277188?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">City officials said residents should only visit parks within walking distance because parking lots will remain closed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cowles Mountain and Los Pe\u00f1asquitos Canyon Preserve Trail remain closed, but many other open trails within open space parks are available for use.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comfort stations at local parks are available for use.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many park amenities remain closed, including parking lots, recreation centers, swimming pools, school district joint-use areas, dog off-leash areas, bicycle pump tracks, skate parks, visitor centers, nature centers and campgrounds.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Balboa Park Central Mesa and all museums will remain closed. Portions of Morley Field and passive sections of the East and West Mesa are open.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mission Bay Park will remain closed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While a full, unconditional reopening of parks and beaches may still be months away, this limited opening is much needed. People around the county want to go outside\u2014and can do so safely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To those that go out to the park: practice social distancing, stick to local parks, and consider a face covering.
