With families now in closer quarters than ever before, the risk of domestic violence may be higher than ever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response, San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan is reminding the public of resources available to victims of domestic violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe acknowledge the necessity of Governor Newsom\u2019s order, but want to be sure we provide a lifeline to those who may be at increased risk of violence at the hands of an intimate partner,\u201d Stephan said. \u201cAdditional stressors such as losing a job and kids at home due to school closures can be triggers for domestic violence. We want people who are seeing warning signs of abuse or who are being abused to know that we stand ready to help them and that they shouldn\u2019t suffer in silence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephan\u2019s office has updated the DA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcda.org\">website<\/a> to include a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcda.org\/helping\/domestic-violence.html\">domestic violence section<\/a> that provides information on local services. It also includes an anonymous quiz to determine one\u2019s risk of domestic violence. The DA\u2019s office also included a section on the website for helping offenders stop the cycle of abuse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domestic violence hotlines, resource centers, and temporary restraining orders are still available despite the temporary court closure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Red flags for abuse include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Controlling and jealous behaviors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Threats to harm you, your children or pet<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Destruction of property<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Put downs or telling you that nothing you do is right<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Forced sex<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Withholding access to money or medical care<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Shaming or embarrassing you<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Saying if you get coronavirus symptoms you will get kicked out<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Forcing you to do drugs or alcohol<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2003Threatening to have you deported<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you or someone you know is in danger, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
