His office is now accepting penalty cancellation requests for those directly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe know COVID-19 has had widespread consequences for people in San Diego, California and across the nation, and we want to be as compassionate and lenient as possible,\u201d said McAllister. \u201cWe will cancel late penalties for those directly affected by the virus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taxpayers can use the penalty cancellation request form on the Treasurer-Tax Collector\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdttc.com\/content\/ttc\/en\/tax-collection\/secured-property-taxes\/covid-19-penalty-cancellations.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to request that their penalty is waived. They should be prepared to provide some sort of documentation of financial hardship to explain the circumstances affecting them, and to include a check for the second installment of property taxes owed. Requests must be submitted through mail by June 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is the right thing to do in these uncertain times for our taxpayers. We act as stewards of the public and are guided by the motto, \u2018The noblest motive is the public good,\u2019 which is at the heart of our collective county conscience,\u201d McAllister added. \u201cIndeed, we are bound together in a common purpose to do the right thing.
