No prom, no graduation, no senior week, no senior prank\u2026 All of these things that we\u2019d dreamed of since we were kids are being taken away for good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the most part, my friends and I knew that the governor had made the right decision\u2014after all, our mundane losses become nearly irrelevant in the face of a global pandemic. However, I think a lot of us can\u2019t help but feel a sense of regret. We were experiencing highschool knowing that there still was a long way to go\u2014that every chance we had wasn\u2019t our last.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We didn\u2019t <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to go to prom junior year, since there was always senior prom. We didn\u2019t <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to attend school sporting events, since there\u2019d always be another season. We didn\u2019t <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to take every opportunity we were given, because there were always more to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, there are no more chances, and we\u2019re never getting them back. That\u2019s what hurts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I guess all we can do now is look forward; to college, a new beginning, and beyond. That\u2019s what\u2019s motivating me past this slump: the brightness of the future. True, there\u2019s still the looming uncertainty of when all of this will be over, but a girl can hope\u2014and hope she will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To those still in high school, please learn from this. You may never have the opportunity to do those quintessentially \u201chigh school\u201d things ever again, so when you\u2019re offered the chance, take it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And to those a bit further down the road, I think there\u2019s a grain of truth in the plight of the angry high school senior, and I hope you\u2019ll take it. Let us serve as a reminder to live life to the fullest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps this pandemic will give the world a much-needed chance to reflect, and we\u2019ll emerge from it better. We\u2019ll live in the moment, be kinder to each other, and work together towards rebuilding what\u2019s been broken.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll be consoling a lot of my friends who are crying in their prom dresses come May, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be among them. In times like these, we need hope. It\u2019s the only consistency left in this crazy world, and though it can be a difficult thing to keep, I still have it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So stay hopeful, San Diego.
