It may be difficult for candidates to connect with San Diegans while obeying social distancing, but that certainly hasn’t stopped 49th congressional district candidate Brian Maryott. He\u2019s created a series of weekly town hall livestreams on his Facebook<\/a> in order to better connect with voters and answer their questions in real time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This week, Maryott touched on a few platform-specific ideals that he believes in. He reiterated his highly pro-business stance and his commitment to protecting our economic freedom. On the same topic, he expressed his support for unleashing competition in the medical markets to help drive costs down.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was also asked his opinion of the current state of biased reporting in the media. Maryott wants to hold the media accountable for its actions, and to clarify the difference between \u201cpolitical entertainment\u201d and actual news in order to keep the people informed and aware.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maryott also touched on the COVID-19 situation in California. On Tuesday, Superintendent Tony Thurmond expressed his doubts that California schools would be back in session at all for the 2019-2020 school year. Yesterday, Governor Newsom confirmed as much. Maryott was disappointed at this development, suggesting that the decision was a bit premature.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Maryott is hopeful about the future. \u201cWhen we\u2019re united, we\u2019re undefeated,\u201d he said, imploring citizens to stay optimistic even in the face of dire circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n
