An executive order to amend the California Revenue and Tax Code or action by the State Legislature is needed in order to achieve this relief.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supervisor Gaspar tweeted out a copy of a letter she, Desmond, and McAllister recently sent to Governor Gavin Newsom. In it they cite the \u201cextraordinary circumstances and emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic\u201d and request \u201can executive order to allow for a 60-day extension of the deadline for property tax payments\u2026or to provide a 60-day grace period.\u201d The 60-day grace period would allow the Treasurer-Tax Collector to cancel penalties and costs resulting from coronavirus-related transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Not giving up! People across the nation are going to have problems paying bills, at least for the time being. That is why legislation like this is so badly needed right now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The San Diego City Council recently passed a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2020\/03\/san-diego-city-council-passes-temporary-moratorium-on-evictions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">moratorium on evictions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as did the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2020\/03\/supervisor-kristin-gaspar-leads-unanimous-vote-to-place-a-temporary-moratorium-on-evictions\/\">San Diego County Board of Supervisors<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2020\/03\/san-marcos-also-passes-temporary-moratorium-on-evictions\/\">San Marcos City Council<\/a>, and a number of other bodies.
