Primary election night saw success for many local Republican candidates. San Diego County District 2 Supervisor candidates Joel Anderson and Steve Vaus both advanced to the November general election. Since both are proud and accomplished Republicans, it\u2019s safe to say that District 2 will be in good hands no matter which way the race goes.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that California is a Democrat-dominated state, so a noteworthy Republican presence is a refreshing change of pace. The fact that two Republicans comfortably made it through the District 2 primary election speaks volumes about what voters in the district want. They\u2019re sick of the identity politics, special interests, and endless taxes that they\u2019ve seen on the national, statewide, and local level, and want to see the Board of Supervisors remain in Republican hands.<\/span><\/p>\n

That being said, it\u2019s great that two respected Republicans are running against each other for District 2. It secures a seat on the Board of Supervisors that will be devoted to the needs of working San Diegans, which will help ensure that Democrats aren’t able to run roughshod throughout San Diego.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joel Anderson had a very successful and popular tenure in the State Assembly and State Senate, managing to pass conservative policy even in the face of intense Democratic opposition. Steve Vaus was elected to the Poway City Council in 2012 and became Mayor of Poway in 2014, helping maintain Poway’s conservative record even as San Diego has shifted leftward.<\/p>\n

The November election is sure to split Republican voters, but the guarantee of a solidly conservative County Supervisor is a welcome sign for District 2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
