Support for the bill\u2019s repeal has only grown since its passage, but it seems like no real progress has been made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not thanks to a lack of effort, however. Republican elected officials are making every attempt to repeal AB 5, but they\u2019ve been thwarted at every corner by the overwhelming control that Democrats hold in both chambers of the State Legislature. Recently, Democrats\u2014led by the execrable Lorena Gonzalez\u2014rejected Assemblyman Kevin Kiley\u2019s AB 1928, which would&#8217;ve repealed AB 5.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kiley stated that his bill was a \u201cmotion on behalf of countless Californians whose lives have been upended by AB 5.\u201d Though Gonzalez attempted to instate some sort of concession to freelancers hurt by AB 5, Kiley explained that these changes would take too long to go into effect, and emphasized how much working Californians are being affected each and every day by the disaster that is AB 5.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If there\u2019s one thing everyone should agree to, it\u2019s an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AB5?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AB5<\/a> Grace Period. My new bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AB2075?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AB2075<\/a>, provides this modest relief: no one is subject to AB 5 before 2021. Meanwhile, I&#39;ll keep advancing <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AB1928?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AB1928<\/a> (Repeal) as the permanent solution.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kevin Kiley (@KevinKileyCA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KevinKileyCA\/status\/1235600717374566400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 5, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the &#8216;no&#8217; voters for AB 1928 were San Diego\u2019s own Tasha Boerner Horvath, Todd Gloria, Shirley Weber, Brian Maienschein, and, of course, Lorena Gonzalez. Despite claiming to support working-class families, they refuse to listen to the actual opinions of the Californians most impacted by AB 5 and instead fall in line with the rest of the union-beholden Democratic Party.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nonetheless, Republicans continue to do everything possible to combat AB 5 and other detrimental Democratic policies.
