All of this is paid for by taxpayers, of course. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it gets better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, MTS is working towards a possible ballot measure to raise the sales tax by a half-cent to generate an estimated $24.5 billion in tax revenue. Three<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0public webinars are being held this month to present the plans for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/elevatesd2020.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ElevateSD<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which the tax revenue would be put toward. It includes a new trolley line to the airport, free rides for students through high school, more frequent bus and trolley service, and a few other changes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The webinars are 45 minutes long and participants can submit questions as well as respond to online polls.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The remaining webinars scheduled this month two are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thursday, Feb. 20 at 9:30 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This measure proposal may sound totally benign, but at the end of the day, we would all have to pay an increased sales tax to subsidize something that only a tiny fraction of the population will use. In addition, after discovering that the CEO gets paid over <\/span><em>16 times<\/em> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the median income of the average American, I don\u2019t think MTS needs anymore of our tax dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I also believe that $24.5 billion could be better spent in many other areas, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2020\/01\/__trashed-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">homelessness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2019\/11\/democrats-continue-to-ignore-border-security-while-illegal-border-crossing-attempts-increase\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">border security<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
