{"id":2339,"date":"2020-02-07T10:00:23","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T17:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=2339"},"modified":"2020-02-11T02:09:42","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T09:09:42","slug":"candidate-profile-alex-galicia-for-san-diego-county-supervisor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=2339","title":{"rendered":"Candidate Profile: Alex Galicia for San Diego County Supervisor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alex Galicia is the Republican Party of San Diego County&#8217;s endorsed candidate running for San Diego County Board of Supervisors District 1. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a native southern Californian, passionate patriot, veteran of the Army National Guard, and local business owner, Galicia has dedicated his life to his community and country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galicia was born in Los Angeles, but he\u2019s lived all across Southern California, giving him a broad perspective of life in different parts of the state. He\u2019s the grandson of Mexican immigrants and Cuban refugees, who taught him about the horrors of Fidel Castro\u2019s communist government. Galicia holds an especially close relationship with his Uncle Benny, who not only founded the company that Galicia inherited, but inspired him to join the military and instilled in him a deep-rooted patriotism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After graduating from Montgomery High School, Galicia enlisted in the United States Navy, which he served in until 1990, leaving service to finish college with a degree in linguistics. However, he soon felt the call to serve again, and reenlisted in the military, this time serving in the California branch of the National Guard. After 9\/11, he began serving full time, both at home and overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once he returned from Iraq, Galicia took over the family business inherited from his uncle, Benny Plumbing (now BPI Plumbing). Galicia continues to run it today, having grown it almost tenfold.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galicia served on the City of Chula Vista\u2019s Veterans Commission from 2009-2013, serving as Board Chairman from 2012-2013. He currently sits on the Home Building Institute through the Department of Labor\u2019s Job Corps program in Imperial Beach, and signed multiple propositions to ban costly union-construction agreements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Galicia aims to promote exceptional fiscal responsibility, encourage housing growth, empower job-creating businesses, enhance border partnerships, and promote fair and open competition among local enterprises.
