Mike Levin, City Councilwomen Barbara Bry and Georgette G<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00f3mez<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Assemblymembers Todd Gloria and Lorena Gonzalez, and County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher have all been sounding the alarm on the issue of emissions\u2014despite the fact that San Diego has more than achieved its emissions reduction goal for the past 10 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emissions from residents, businesses, and government have been cut by 24 percent over the last decade. That is nine percent better than the official 2020 goal of 15 percent. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These fantastic numbers, however, have not stopped those named above from religiously pursuing new taxes, regulations, bans, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Taxes.jpg\" width=\"312\" height=\"187\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gotcredit\/\">Photo by GotCredit via Flickr<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new data was revealed in San Diego\u2019s 2019 Climate Action Plan Annual Report.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Total carbon dioxide equivalent emissions for 2018 came in at 9,849,000 metric tons; a 3,136,000 metric ton reduction from 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some other impressive stats revealed by the report include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100 hybrids in municipal fleet<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">64 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15 percent reduction in residential energy use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.5 percent reduction in municipal energy use\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14 gallon reduction in daily per capita water use<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When releasing the report, Mayor Kevin Faulconer made the following statement:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cClimate action isn\u2019t just a phrase in San Diego \u2014 it\u2019s a way of life. The investments we\u2019re making now to protect the environment will pay huge dividends going forward. We\u2019re making solid progress on leaving behind a cleaner San Diego, but we know there is much more work to do and it\u2019s going to take all of us being part of the solution to get where we need to go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cody Hooven, the city\u2019s chief sustainability officer, also released a statement:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSan Diego is demonstrating to the world that we can be a resilient, thriving community in an uncertain climate while improving the quality of life for residents.
