Citizens are absolutely fed up with being ripped off by energy giant SDG&E, and thankfully, a solution is in the works. Recently, the San Diego Board of Supervisors has been discussing an alternative, and have proposed a rival community choice energy program to be implemented in the county\u2019s unincorporated areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s an option we\u2019ve been looking for, and our Supervisors are finally taking action. The provision of an alternative will give citizens the freedom to choose where they get their energy, which is certainly a desirable outcome\u2014as SDG&E has already proven to be <\/span>untrustworthy and reckless<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, creating a single community choice energy program isn\u2019t the only solution to the problem. Creating multiple smaller energy providers that aren\u2019t controlled by some type of government oversight\u2014as Supervisor Kristin Gaspar has proposed\u2014is another way to split SDG&E\u2019s power, which could also result in further competition amongst corporations to provide citizens with the lowest price.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A second reading for the proposal is scheduled for October 29. Further discussion is absolutely necessary to determine the best way to provide citizens with an effective alternative to the energy giant.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the variety of solutions available, it\u2019s up to our legislators to decide which alternative is going to be the most beneficial to the well-being of San Diegans.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
