(San Diego, CA) \u2013 Recent campaign filings show that newly-minted Democrat Assemblyman Brian Maienschein has been giving heavily to San Diego Democrats in the wake of his January party switch.<\/p>\n

Maienschein ended the 2018 election cycle with over $800,000 in his campaign account \u2013 money primarily raised from Republicans that supported Maienschein\u2019s contentious reelection against Democratic challenger Sunday Gover.<\/p>\n

\u201cAssemblyman Maienschein pulled a bait-and-switch on donors across the state that supported his candidacy as a Republican. It adds even more insult to injury that he is now using that money to donate to liberal causes. Will Maienschein do the right thing and return the hard-earned dollars he received campaigning as a Republican now that he has shown himself to be a liberal Democrat?\u201d asked Tony Krvaric, Chairman of the San Diego County Republican Party.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs his constituent, I am disappointed in Assemblyman Maienschein\u2019s bait and switch,\u201d said June Cutter. \u201cBeyond giving money he raised from San Diego business owners to anti-business candidates and organizations, his voting record now reflects his new party registration. He cannot truthfully claim that he is the same candidate he was in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 77th<\/sup>\u00a0District encompasses northern San Diego and portions of North County, including the city of Poway. It also contains the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The District\u2019s voter registration is nearly evenly split between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.<\/p>\n
