SACRAMENTO –\u00a0Today, on the first day of\u00a0Women’s History Month, Assemblywoman Laurie Davies (R-Laguna Niguel),\u00a0Assemblyman\u00a0Josh Hoover (R-Folsom) and\u00a0Assemblyman Greg Wallis (R-Bermuda Dunes) announced that they introduced a\u00a0resolution\u00a0to protect in vitro fertilization<\/a>\u00a0(IVF) in the wake of the recent ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court that the state’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act extended to frozen embryos. This ruling has caused clinics to cease their services until protections can be put in place for embryologists and clinics.<\/p>\n

“The recent healthcare ruling in Alabama has sent shockwaves throughout the country. In California, thousands of families rely on in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to start a family,” said\u00a0Assemblywoman Laurie Davies<\/strong>.\u00a0“Access to this crucial service should never be blocked or placed in danger. I am calling on leaders from both political parties to do what\u2019s right for women, families and doctors. Now is not the time for partisan games. In-vitro fertilization treatment should be protected at all costs.”<\/p>\n

Every year around 500,000 babies are born through IVF. For couples\u00a0who have difficulties conceiving\u00a0due to genetic or sperm disorders, endometriosis, uterine fibrosis, or other medical complications, IVF can be the last opportunity to have a child.<\/p>\n

“I am\u00a0proud to joint author this resolution and stand in strong support of IVF services,”\u00a0said Assemblyman Josh Hoover<\/strong>.\u00a0“We must protect the rights of California women and ensure this option remains available to families across our state.”<\/p>\n

The first day of Women’s History Month serves as a reminder that we need to fight to protect and support women’s access to using IVF services\u00a0to grow their families in California.<\/p>\n

\u201cACR 154\u00a0highlights the importance of IVF for California families and the critical support of women’s health through the recognition and protection of IVF\u00a0services,”\u00a0said Assemblyman Wallis (R-Bermuda Dunes)<\/strong>.\u00a0“We need to work together to safeguard the rights and well-being of Californian women and encourage protections for IVF services, recognizing the transformative impact on countless lives.”<\/p>\n

This resolution affirms California’s commitment to making sure women have access to IVF services.<\/p>\n
