California’s escalating homeless crisis, which has seen a significant increase in the number of homeless individuals over recent years, has become a central issue for State Senator Brian W. Jones. Representing California’s 40th Senate District and serving as the Senate Minority Leader, Jones is actively addressing this critical problem that affects many Californians.<\/p>\n

In a recent op-ed published by CalMatters, Senator Jones highlights the alarming rise in homelessness in the state. From around 130,000 homeless individuals in 2018, the number has surged to over 170,000, marking a more than 30% increase. This rise comes despite the state\u2019s substantial financial efforts, with $20 billion spent over five years by Democrat lawmakers and the governor in attempts to mitigate the crisis.<\/p>\n

Jones points out the stark reality that Californians, who already endure the highest cost of living in the continental U.S., are now faced with the added challenges posed by homelessness in their communities. The presence of used drug needles in parks and safety concerns on the streets are just some of the manifestations of this growing issue.<\/p>\n

California\u2019s homeless crisis has plagued the state for years, and despite throwing a staggering amount of money trying to solve it, the problem is only getting worse. Californians pay the highest cost of living in the continental U.S. \u2013 they should not have to jump over used drug needles in their parks or be afraid to walk down their street.<\/p>\n

In 2018, California had about 130,000 homeless individuals. Today, that number is over 170,000. That amounts to a more than 30% increase. During those same five years, Democrat lawmakers and the governor spent $20 billion trying \u2013 and failing \u2013 to address this crisis. If money isn\u2019t a problem, what is?<\/p>\n
