My amendment to prohibit toddler mask mandates just passed the House.<\/p>\n

The Congresswoman who spoke against it claimed child masking was \u201cevidence-based,\u201d so I asked for the evidence. She had none. At that point she let the amendment pass without a recorded vote.<\/p>\n

You can watch the 10-minute\u00a0Floor Debate here<\/span><\/a>. I also appreciated this\u00a0brilliant summary<\/span><\/a>\u00a0of the debate from Jay Bhattacharya. Our opponent, Jessica Morse, put out a statement opposing the amendment; she was a top Newsom aide throughout the COVID insanity.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, China\u2019s President Xi and other foreign leaders are in San Francisco. And as if by magic, the city has transformed before our very eyes. A frantic \u201cbeautification effort\u201dc aused homeless people and open-air drug use to go \u201cpoof\u201d (as the New York Times put it).<\/p>\n

Newsom even admitted he only \u201ccleaned up\u201d the city because \u201call those fancy leaders are coming into town.\u201d His goal, of course, is more than just saving himself from humiliation; it\u2019s to hide the disastrous consequences of the policies he wants to impose on the rest of the country.<\/p>\n

The trouble for Newsom is that he can\u2019t hide the evidence long. Following my\u00a0Collapse of San Francisco<\/span><\/a>\u00a0speech earlier this year, even CNN aired an hour-long special on how the city is falling apart. And no one is more responsible than the former Mayor-turned-Governor.<\/p>\n

The Legislature, for its part, has descended further into self-parody, setting up a \u201cSelect Committee on Retail Theft\u201d rather than repeal Prop. 47. It\u2019s reminiscent of the\u00a0Select Committee on Gas Prices<\/span><\/a>\u00a0it formed last year after refusing to pass my gas tax suspension.<\/p>\n

Finally, thank you to everyone for the kind feedback on the\u00a0Roll Call profile<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(\u201cNewsom\u2019s Biggest Critic May be this California Republican\u201d). It goes without saying, but our battles are just getting started.<\/p>\n
