{"id":1017,"date":"2019-08-07T10:30:50","date_gmt":"2019-08-07T17:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=1017"},"modified":"2019-08-07T12:23:40","modified_gmt":"2019-08-07T19:23:40","slug":"uss-theodore-roosevelt-doesnt-fail-to-impress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=1017","title":{"rendered":"USS Theodore Roosevelt Doesn&#8217;t Fail to Impress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The USS Theodore Roosevelt is one of the 10 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nimitz-class<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in the United States Navy.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Named in honor of the 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, along with four other Navy SEAL ships.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The San Diego-based aircraft carriers were the first <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to be assembled using modular construction which reduced its construction time by 16 months. This same technique has been used on every aircraft carrier since.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ship was first deployed for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/news\/history-vault-operation-desert-storm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Operation Desert Storm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in 1990 and later after the Sept. 11 attacks the aircraft carrier launched the initial strikes against al-Qaeda during <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.navy.mil\/research\/library\/online-reading-room\/title-list-alphabetically\/u\/us-navy-operation-enduring-freedom-2001-2002.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Operation Enduring Freedom<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Nimitz-class aircraft carriers are considered to be the centerpiece of naval ships, traveling over 30 knots per hour despite their large size. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is more than 1,000 feet long and 250 feet wide. Furthermore, the nuclear-powered ship supports 3,200 crew members and 90 aircraft.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This August, the ship proved more agile than ever. It is often assumed that it&#8217;s difficult to turn an aircraft carrier quickly, but not for Roosevelt.
