Skyrocketing Gas Prices Hurting California Motorists<\/p>\n

SACRAMENTO \u2013\u00a0With California drivers paying nearly\u00a0$7.00 for a gallon of regular gas<\/a>, which is\u00a0at least $2.00 more<\/a>\u00a0compared to other states,\u00a0Senate Republicans<\/a>\u00a0are stepping up efforts to call on Governor Newsom to do the right thing and suspend the state\u2019s gas tax and fees\u00a0immediately, with a special session. \u2026 \u00a0We ask you to call a special session of the Legislature to temporarily suspend the state\u2019s gas tax. Californians are paying $0.58 per gallon to the state. Immediate relief is needed.\u00a0\u2026<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2026\u00a0In December 2022, you convened a special session of the Legislature and unveiled a proposed penalty on oil production. With prices again near record highs, Californians are rightfully upset as current policies are not working. \u2026.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cSuspending the gas tax has bipartisan support across the country,\u201d\u00a0said Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones (R-San Diego).\u00a0\u201cSeveral Democrat and Republican states have suspended their gas taxes. Even President Biden supports this solution to reduce the pain at the pump. We are behind the nation in bringing gas price relief to overly taxed Californians.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month,\u00a0Senator Janet Nguyen<\/a>\u00a0(R-Huntington Beach)\u00a0pushed for an amendment<\/a>\u00a0to suspend the state\u2019s gas taxes and fees for one year, which would have lowered gas prices by $1 per gallon. Senate Democrats rejected the proposal without even consideration for a debate.<\/p>\n
