(Del Mar, Calif.) \u2013\u00a0Margarita<\/span>\u00a0Wilkinson<\/span>, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Entravision Communications, which owns and operates Univision San Diego and broadcast affiliates in Tijuana, announces her candidacy for California\u2019s 49th Congressional District.<\/p>\n

Wilkinson<\/span>, a lifelong Republican, spent 32 years at Entravision, and is a civic and philanthropic leader, serving on the boards of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Old Globe Theater, and Lincoln Club of San Diego, and previously serving on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Red Cross, San Diego Symphony, and ONE San Diego.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cFor the last thirteen years, I\u2019ve served as the eyes and ears of my community working in media and with local non-profits that lift people up,\u201d said\u00a0Wilkinson<\/span>. \u201cCalifornians are struggling to make ends meet and many feel voiceless in Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the last five years, inflation has increased 44%, gas prices are up 85%, a 38% increase in the mortgage interest rate is just a small piece of the 39% increase in housing costs, while homelessness is up 21%, and immigration enforcement actions have skyrocketed 404%,\u201d continued\u00a0Wilkinson<\/span>. \u201cIn every measurable way, things are getting worse, and I am running for Congress to put my focus on the real issues impacting the lives of the people who live and work in the 49th District.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur national debt now stands at $33 trillion \u2013 a $10 trillion increase in the last five years and more than $100,000 for every man, woman, and child in America. Only 39% of Americans approve of President Biden\u2019s performance, and yet\u00a0Congressman Mike Levin has voted with him 100% of the time.<\/strong>\u00a0He is not focused on the challenges facing our communities and that\u2019s why I\u2019m running,\u201d said\u00a0Wilkinson<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Margarita<\/span>\u00a0has been endorsed by San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, former San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and former San Diego council members Chris Cate and Scott Sherman.<\/p>\n

Margarita<\/span>\u00a0was born to a teenage mother in Mexico City, before moving to El Paso, Texas to attend American public schools. She became fluent in English and was accepted to the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), graduating with a degree in Special Education.\u00a0Margarita<\/span>\u00a0took a staff assistant position at the local Univision affiliate while working her way through college and rose to become the youngest station manager in company history at age 32. It was during this time that she became an American citizen, the proudest day of her life. In 2009, she was named Senior Vice President and General Manager Entravision in San Diego and Tijuana.<\/p>\n

Margarita<\/span>\u00a0and her husband, Philip, live in Del Mar and share four children.<\/p>\n
