{"id":10029,"date":"2023-09-05T15:37:19","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T22:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=10029"},"modified":"2023-09-05T15:37:19","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T22:37:19","slug":"democrat-lawmakers-reject-effort-to-hold-fentanyl-traffickers-accountable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=10029","title":{"rendered":"Democrat Lawmakers Reject Effort to Hold Fentanyl Traffickers Accountable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Cartel members breathe sigh of relief as they continue poisoning Californians with impunity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SACRAMENTO \u2013 Today, Assembly Democrats once again sided with cartels and drug traffickers to block an effort to fight the fentanyl epidemic and hold dealers accountable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlexandra\u2019s Law\u201d would require convicted fentanyl traffickers to receive a warning that fentanyl can kill and if they continue selling the drug and cause a death, they could face homicide charges. <a href=\"https:\/\/assembly.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=98b5dbaba95f9c1b87e48a252&amp;id=b88ba8ee11&amp;e=4dd37846a6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/assembly.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D98b5dbaba95f9c1b87e48a252%26id%3Db88ba8ee11%26e%3D4dd37846a6&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1694039643190000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2iddBRGKT0W_u1rMmK1XQa\">Assembly Constitutional Amendment 12<\/a>, which would put Alexandra\u2019s Law before the voters, has been stalled by Democrats in the Assembly Rules Committee since its introduction. A Republican motion to withdraw ACA 12 from the Rules Committee for consideration by the full Assembly was rejected on a party-line vote.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s been clear for months that we need to make ending the fentanyl epidemic a priority for all Californians<\/em>,\u201d said <strong>Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach)<\/strong>, who authored ACA 12. \u201c<em>I am greatly disappointed that today\u2019s motion to bring ACA 12 to the Floor failed because the Democrat Supermajority refused to act. This is a matter of life and death \u2013 we need to send a message that poisoning our communities is not acceptable<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>People are dying and Democrats are dragging their feet<\/em>,\u201d said <strong>Assemblyman Joe Patterson (R-Rocklin)<\/strong>, an ACA 12 co-author. \u201c<em>Fighting fentanyl is one of the most pressing issues facing our state.
